Hey mods I have a question/suggestion for being able to start a new thread. How about a minimum post count before being able to start a new thread. There are so many one post wonders, or people who simply say "stay away from XYZ, they screwed me over!!" Maybe with a post count minimum they would read the forums a bit and join in an already started thread and add missing information on what happens at a certain company. Just a thought.......

The problem with that is usually someone's first post is a question. Then with a restriction they end up posting it in someone else's thread which either gets side tracked or lost. It's better to cater to the ones that hang around than the ones that don't. One post wonders are usually easily recognizable and disappear quickly down the list. Plus it gives some members a little fun to throw some tomatoes!

I agree, drive-by posters are annoying. I also think Condo has it right, and that preventing new members from starting a thread will hurt more than it will help.

I never thought about that!!

Tomatoes are fun-stones even more so..
CondoCruiser Thanks this. -
Plus alot of them are members that just start another acct just to TRY to increase the number of agreements toward themselves. Yes, it is extreemly petty and childish. But, it is happening and not well hidden lol. They only think so by what Ive noticed.

With regard to one post wonders..... Is there a timeframe to which their account / thread is ever deleted?
-
No, I don't think there is a practical way to implement that idea. It would be possible to automate the deletion and remove all threads started by one post wonders after X months, but often some useful discussion comes from these threads, and I wouldn't want that to be deleted.
As for doing it manually, it would require an incredible amount of additional work for the volunteer moderators to find and review old one post wonder posts and decide whether or not they should be deleted. Also not practical.Lilbit, bullhaulerswife and Big Don Thank this. -
Some? Useful?
The majority of one-post wonders have little, or no idea of this industry. The majority of one-post wonders serve nothing more than "adding salt" to something that doesn't need any further seasoning.
With all of the negative comments by the majority of the one post wonders who comment about their dissatisfaction of training, who comment about their dissatisfaction of company, who comment about their dissatisfaction of the industry as a whole... I personally wonder how it is useful when we as a group don't hear the "after-the-fact" statements from these so-called "helpful" one-post wonders who "knows it all" AFTER they've done one month in the industry and one post on this forum!
I disagree that, for the most part, that one-post wonders are helpful. Only on very rare occasion does a one-post wonder make a statement that is new and worthwhile. -
It's not the post/statement made by the "one post wonder" itself, but the subsequent discussion of other, longer term members that proves useful.fleiscka, Admin, bullhaulerswife and 3 others Thank this.
