My post was limited to logs from midnight to midnight and if you are driving through midnight you are required to start a new log page at the 1st change of duty after midnight, post the miles driven for the previous 24 hour period, and complete the log page for that prior 24 hour period. That completion will include a signature on your Post Trip Inspection Report if it is part of that log page. I will grant that, if you use a separate form for your Post Trip Inspection Report, that report could be completed at the conclusion of your driving day. Failure to have your logs completed to the last change of duty is a violation as we all know. Keep in mind the Form and Manner violation.

from what i've seen when my logs are checked. it's only about the driving time. they want to know how long you've been driving. they don't care how long you've been on other lines.
course, youi're usually not harrased unless your driving anyways. LOL. -
Here is what DOT states on your pre-trip, which is going to follow your post-trip inspection.
Before driving a motor vehicle, the driver shall:
(a) Be satisfied that the motor vehicle is in safe operating condition;
(b) Review the last driver vehicle inspection report; and
(c) Sign the report, only if defects or deficiencies were noted by the driver who prepared the report, to acknowledge that the driver has reviewed it and that there is a certification that the required repairs have been performed. The signature requirement does not apply to listed defects on a towed unit which is no longer part of the vehicle combination.
If no defects
If no defect or deficiency is discovered by or reported to the driver, the report shall so indicate. In all instances, the driver shall sign the report.
The signature on your log sheet does not have anything to do with your post-trip/inspections. It's signing your daily log is complete, which you quoted that correctly but it's for your "daily log"
Many drivers think the DVIR is part of your log, it's not.
You don't stop at 11:45 to do a post-trip if you are going to drive until 1:00 am the following day. You have not "completed" your day until 1:00 am and that's when you do your post-trip. Your company should have you date yesterday's DVIR inspection for the following day/time.
You did the inspection for that day, early the following morning, leaving tomorrows DVIR open incase you do another DVIR that day. You should however do it as your company requires but you could maybe discuss this with them and maybe they will understand and accept, if needed
