There wasn't any one thing in particular which lead me to choosing those two companies. But I will add that they were one of the few who actually hires from my neck of the woods, which is south Florida. And as for the bad rep a lot of these mega carriers are holding, I'm starting to realize they all have pros and cons about them, so it's hard for anyone to say which is a better fit for the next person. I just have to figure out which will best suit me.To be honest I think I wanna go with refrigeration. I know there's added work with running the reefer and a lot of waiting but that's cool, I'm a patient person (i have kids) I don't mind. But as of right now, that's where I wanna try my luck. And if it doesn't work out down the road, I may try out tanker division. I already have my permit with a tanker endorsement just in case I have a change of heart in the future. Pulling doubles/triples or hazmat doesn't really tickle my fancy so I didn't get those endorsements, even though I know they can't hurt having either yet they can come in handy. Hadn't even considered Millis but I will be looking into them. Let me also add that starting out, money isn't that big of a concern to me, no bs! I'm a realist, so coming into this I'm well aware my first year is gonna be by far the roughest, so my main concern is getting through it safe and sound without any tickets/citations or accidents. After that I know more doors will be open up for me and then I can punch my own ticket...to a certain extent. Only then when I start worrying about how much money I can make!

If you have a family and want to be home daily, consider food service or beverage. Long term, the beverage will beat up your body. Do a year after they get you your cdl and evaluate where you want to be. My food service job is a cake walk. Basically, it keeps me in shape (palletized LTL). You don’t have to go OTR if you’re willing to do some physical work. And your family will be glad to have you home

I hear what you're saying, and yes I have a beautiful wife, a 5 year old daughter, 8 year old daughter and a 12 year old stepson. But my wife knows that OTR is where my heart is at. I love to drive and I love to travel so what better way to do so. Maybe in a few years after giving OTR a chance I'll consider regional or a dedicated route.
But as of right now, I'm completely comfortable with being gone for months at a time just due to the simple fact that technology has come so far. I can still be there without actually being there. 10-15 years ago I would've struggled with being gone so long, but not this day in age. With apps like snapchat and facetime, I can see, /talk to my family whenever. Not to mention the fact that I also have surveillance cameras on the outside of my house and cameras on the inside. So at any given point in time I can check up on my family regardless of where I'm at. But nevertheless, I appreciate your advice, as with everyone else who's been kind enough to offer some words of wisdom. Thank you all, truly!! You men/women really don't know how comforting it is having complete strangers offering such uplifting advice to individuals like myself whose working on getting started in this industry. It doesn't seem to matter if its a small problem or a colossal problem, I'm sure people like myself can come on here and receive awesome responses, and that just means the world to me, so thanks again everyone.
