Sounds like it has a central greasing system...
My Pete HAD a grease zerk and bracket hanging off the left frame rail but the PO cut the grease line... why I don't know. Now I just give it a squirt or two a couple times a year.Cat nip Thanks this. -
yeah it has about 5 fittings on there for the clutch linkage, and something else... Can't remember off hand...
-
Make sure you use high temp grease for the throw out bearing!
Justrucking2 Thanks this. -
Came across this post and am searching for the same information. Currently running two trucks w a mix of On-Road/Off-Road driving conditions. I am trying to build a company Operations Manual and trying to put together the PM portion.
I found the PM schedule in the Peterbilt operators manual found here (http://www.peterbilt.com/resources_manuals.aspx)
I spoke to the Peterbilt Service manager for some advice and he said since I am running off-road, I would need to perform PM more often than the manuals state.
After reading through the PM manual for my specific trucks (pete 379)... rollin coal's PM schedule is almost identical to the manual. Also recommended by the Service Manager.
I'm a true believer in a proper PM schedule is key to getting every last mile out of a rig... whether a car, motorcycle, boat.
Once I get my PM schedule lined out, I will post it back here for others. It will consist of a Daily, Weekly, Bi-Weekly, Monthly, 6 month and Annual PM outline.
We will be handling a majority of our PM... the only thing I see going to Service for are Alignments, 6-month and Annual PM. -
don't forget to put in your brake system measurements.
you might want to review the requirements that the FMCSA puts out too in their ETA manual.
If you at the LEAST do that, you will comply with the regulations. Plus use similar forms.

I've been face first in the ETA manual for two days now! Not the greatest reading material, but will CYA in the long run.
-
You might have to mix in engine hours too with your intervals if the off road distances aren't very much.

Heavyd, after reading operators manuals for Pete and Cat, I am basing the intervals for Monthly/6 month on Service hours, Miles and Period of day... which ever comes first.
Here is the schedule I came up with;
*Daily: done post trip
*Weekly: done pre or post trip on designated day of week.
*Monthly: based on 15-24k miles, 30 days, or 300 service hours.
*6 Month: based on 60-96k miles, 180 days, or 1200 service hours. (More than likely it will be a Pre-Summer/Pre-Winter time frame)
Here is what I lined out for inspections/PM;
*Daily - using the DOT Vehicle Inspection report and process.
*Weekly
TRUCK: Steering Tire pressure, Front Drive Tire Pressure, Rear Drive Tire, Pressure.
Grease: Kingpin lock, 5th wheel plate, 5th wheel latch, Fan hub, Steering components, Front suspension components, Steering shaft u-joints, Spring pins, Front Brake slack adjusters, Brake cam shafts, Clutch pedal shaft, PTO u-joints, Driveshaft u-joints, Front Diff u-joints, Rear Diff u-joints
TRAILER: Tire pressure
Grease: Kingpin, Slack Adjusters, Brake cam shafts
*Monthly
TRUCK: Check Tire pressure, Change oil, Change oil filter, Change Secondary fuel filter, Clean Primary fuel filter screen, Adjust brake slack adjusters, Inspect brake pads - Replace if needed, Check hub oil, Check transfer case oil, Check Air filter, Sample coolant
Grease: Kingpin lock, 5th wheel plate, Fan hub, Steering components, Front suspension components, Steering shaft u-joints, Spring pins, Front Brake slack adjusters, Brake cam shafts, Clutch pedal shaft, PTO u-joints, Driveshaft u-joints, Throwout bearing

*6-Month and Annual will be done by service dept.
------------
I am open to suggestions on if I lack something on Weekly and Monthly PM items.
