Well, I did it. I applied back towards the first of this week, called and spoke with my recruiter who was very helpful and easy to talk to. There were a couple of concerns she had but we got them all ironed out early today. Got an email and phone call from her this afternoon with orientation information and bus confirmation details. I'll be there Monday afternoon ready to start Tuesday morning.
I've been scouring this forum for the last several weeks and I read somewhere that a few of you like to read the "behind the scenes" stuff of an up and coming road hand. This ain't my first rodeo. LOLz
Anyway, I'm excited as can be to get back into driving. I used to have my own truck back in the early 80's and drove for the local farmers in Middle GA pulling a grain wagon, flat bed, dump and even a Killebrew. I had a '79 cabover Freight Shaker with 400 Cumins and 13-spd. Things started drying up for local hauls so I hired on at age 23 in 1984 with Poole Truck Line out of Evergreen, AL. Ran out of Macon, GA. Quit driving in '86 and went back to school. I've been doing electrical and mechanical work ever since till I got layed off from a 9 year job in Florida. Losing that job about killed me,,, I loved it, made good money, had decent benefits and good folks to work for. They had to reduce staff and I was one of about 30 people out of 50 who got cut. It was not a happy day.
Forward to today. I'm single, nothing to tie me down and willing to start over again. It's not been a hasty decision as I've been looking to find work in my discipline for quite sometime and things haven't worked out so far. Thinking back over the years when I was most happy, driving for Poole was one of my happiest. That was 25 years ago. The State of GA had Class V operator permits then,,, CDL? What's that? LOLz.
Here I'm iz. Ready to start from the bottom again. Doing all the reading I've done over the last few months, I'm sure I'm in for a real awakening for OTR driving today with all the electronics. I'm sort of an electronics geek so I think I'll catch on fairly quick. I'm hoping the basics of handling a truck are the same and if so, I think I will pick that back up fairly quick. What do you old hands think? And you younger hands, I hope I get one of y'all as my trainer,,, I'm young at heart!
I'm a tad excited as you can tell. I look forward to starting this coming Tuesday. And thanks so much for you guys and gals insight and writings about Prime as it makes me a bit more comfortable in my decision.
Take care and see ya Tuesday! :thumbup

Hey there and welcome to Prime. Theres isnt much to the electronics, pretty simple stuff. And I havent been doing this job long enough to even give you a general idea of how the trucks drive now compared to the 80's trucks. All i can say is there extremely quiet, very comfortable, and run like a cadilac.
Goobr54 Thanks this. -
I've never driven a truck with power steering. 'cept the air assist power steering. Major fail.

Howdy!
Cross big truck with mmm... Mercedes Benz (in the case of shakers) and well, that's kinda it!

Welcome to Prime. Like any company we have good with the bad. Over all I can say 90% good, 10% bad. Good trucks, and my own personal experience we have some pretty good people. I should be in the yard sometime this week. Enjoy your time. Run over to the Millineum Building grab a hot meal, they have great food. Watch a movie, and get a workout in. Enjoy the Prime Experience. I've loved it here so far.
