Does anyone know Prime's current requirements for "experienced" drivers? I got my CDL and drove for a year back in 2009 - haven't driven since then. So I'm wondering if I go to Prime, will they want me to go back through a school or a refresher course or.... how will they handle that?
Thanks for any insight.

Of course, a recruiter would have the most up to date info.
Last I heard:
If you haven't driven in the last few months OTR they're gonna want you to get at least 6 months experience somewhere else or take a refresher course.
conflicting info on refresher availability at Prime. Prime's Facebook page recently answered a question that they do not offer refresher, however another person here on TTR reported he did the whole PSD/TNT course without surrendering his CDL.DE36535 Thanks this. -
Thanks. I'll give them a call Monday morning - I'm assuming they;ll be closed (recruiting, anyway) until then due to the holiday.

99.9% of your mega companies will want you to either go out with a trainer or refresher since you been out of the truck over 3 years. Central Ref wanted me to go out with a trainer also Swift also when I made my come back.DE36535 Thanks this.

The insurance companies have statistical evidence that experienced drivers returning after a long idle period have a much higher chance of getting into a serious accident than the newbs.
I know that sounds stupid, but they're the guys with the reports 'n statistics. And they get a big say on who get's time in the seats. -
Understood. Thanks.

As of last month when I was there, there were three ways into Prime if you have a class A.
If you have at least six months of "recent" experience, you can come in directly as a driver. "Recent" depends on what kind of experience you have.
If you are a recent (30 day) graduate from a CDL school, you can come in for 40K miles of TnT, teaming with a trainer. Some people who have lots of experience, but dropped out of driving for a while, have reported coming in this way, as well.
If you have no recent experience but have a class A, you go through the PSD/TnT phases like the unlicensed drivers. You "graduate" from the PSD phase by passing the exact same tests that the unlicensed drivers use to get their CDL.
One year experience and four years of not driving will probably start you out as a PSD student. No, you will NOT have to give up your CDL.DE36535 Thanks this. -
I'm a recent grad. I graduated 3 months ago no experience. Will they accept me and just have go out with a trainer ?

They have limits on how long you can have your CDL without getting into the seat. You'd be well advised to call recruiting today, or else they'll want you to go through the entire PSD sequence. It's about the statistics showing the longer you're idle, the more likely you are to make a mistake while driving.

Yeah, not to scare ya but there is an expectation date on that graduation in regards to hiring at Prime. Wait too long and they will want you to get experience elsewhere for 6-8 months before they will hire you.
