Hi there! I was wondering of anyone had any information about obtaining a private CB channel for a 5 mile radius. Does anyone know where I could go about purchasing one? Cost? Limitations?
I really appreciate your help! It's been very difficult getting any info and I'd be so grateful for any info!
Thank you again
Stephanie

Two-way business radio. MOTOROLA and other dealers local to you.
CB is private citizens only. No business, per se.
Now, with 40-channels having a group on just one can work. But it isnt Private, and using it for business purposes all day isn’t right.
Two way is FAR better.Tb0n3, OldeSkool and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
Thank you for being so patient with me, because honestly I'm an idiot when it comes to this stuff and I can't find anyone left that uses CB radio anymore!
It's for our hunting group that uses truck CBs when we are hunting on our land. We have about 10 people but a public channel has been a pain. I know others have private channels but they are secretive about where the purchased theirs.
Thank you for being so helpful -
You might look into MURS radios for that, range should be adequate.
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
If there's not a body of water around you, I'd use marine grade radios. Good range and water proof.

MURS and FMRS.
Cb is nice for Highway also.
I’d test a couple of CBs over your intended range.
And look into whether a scanner (UNIDEN BCT15) can pick up your “opponents”.
Really, I’d start by investigating commercial two-way. Expense against benefit. Then go from there. -
What problem are you trying to overcome?
It is impossible to guard against anyone listening in on a radio frequency, because scanners can pick up any frequency that you might use. Only equipment that allows the signals to be transmitted and received in some sort of encrypted format would prevent intrusion. Some law enforcement agencies use that technology, but it's expensive and, I believe, illegal for civilians to use. -
Depending on the area you are in, you can contract for a trucked channel at I think $300 per unit per month. So 10 units, $3000 a month.

I dont know much about radios, but why not try handheld VHF and squat on some frequency used a thousand miles away? I'm not sure what range to expect from a 5w handheld, but 5 miles doesn't seem too crazy. They are cheap enough to experiment with. Sure, not private, but a helluva lot more than CB since they are not widely used down there (from what I've heard)
