It seems that every once in a while the selector decides to quit working and even though I have it in low for second gear the truck reacts like it is in seventh and stalls. Now I do not know if I am doing something I am not aware of or it is a mechanical issue with the older Freightliner Columbias.
I tried to explain this to the garage and got a very odd look and some mumbling about when it comes in for a PM they will look at it.
Any ideas?

Splitter could be going out or you could have a leak on one of those little air lines that feed it.
-
Kind of transmission. Number of gears.

Eaton Ten Speed

Any audible air leaks? Or just a delay on the split?
-
If its happening when you 1st start out after stopping and its the 1st time your letting out clutch in low range maybe its not getting time in n. before you put in in next gear when changing to low range, just play with your shift before putting in shop?

You should be able to hear the air actuator engage and disengage every time you flip the switch. Just let your air pressure build to full while stopped, shut the engine down and flip your switch over and over again and listen to see if it's always engaging and disengaging or if sometimes it takes a little extra time to work. It most likely be the actuator or the switch/valve. Might be getting old and seizing up.
Home_on_wheels, terryg247, Cottonmouth85 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Truck year?

2011. I do not remember hearing any air leaks. The funny thing is it will be fine for a couple of days and then suddenly it does not want to do what it is suppose to. Of course when it does happen it is on some busy street in a major center

I'd replace it before it goes out all the way. No fun trying to limp home stuck in 1 range. Been there done that.
tucker Thanks this.
