Im talking with the guy who wants me to work for him (O/O) hauling propane. The numbers he's giving me look really good. Anybody does propane as an O/O? Is it really that good gig?
Propane anybody?

It's not for everyone. Driving a bomb feeding a bigger bomb from time to time.
If you like it, have at it. I won't try to talk you out of it. It's not for me. -
I did it for10 years.
Seasonal business. Lot of work in winter and slow to nothing in summer. If this guy has contract with refinery it's better.Sirscrapntruckalot and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
Usually switch over to anhydrous in the Spring

We don't use it on our sand soil..

I'd be interested in who this is. I've thought about it myself. -
It depends on who the o/o is signed onto. And in the mid west there is almost year round work with winter, propane storage, then corn drying season. But the rates dropped on lpg's in 2015 and haven't really came up too a good level like it once was.
Some companies haul asphalt or something else. To keep guys busy. Almost all the guys that I know have left the lpg's industry. They say that they can't make any money now.Sirscrapntruckalot Thanks this. -
I love pulling hard shells, but you're right it's not for everyone. I did ether, basically the same offload, but ran year round. We did have a driver we needed to have run a load to me and he refused. He was scared of pulling it. Some days I wish I was still on the account, but that's another story.
I've tried finding another company, but there's really no one around Joliet IL pulling bottles for an O/O.Sirscrapntruckalot and x1Heavy Thank this. -
In our part of the country propane is very seasonal. We have a guy that drives for us during the summer months. He's low in senority on his propane job so he doesn't work much during the warm months.
We looked into getting a couple of propane trailers but the costs were high for decent trailers and they were hard to find.
The haul rates were surprisingly low.
Plus, our insurance would have gone up and we'd have a couple of trailers sitting around for three or four months out of the year with no work. For us, it just didn't pencil out.Sirscrapntruckalot Thanks this.
