So I just got off the phone with progressive refined my quote to 1000 mile radius but the guy told me that I can't get cargo only on hook because of the type of vehicle I would have so asking you is there a difference in the eye of the broker with on hook insurance compared to cargo insurance??

You actually live in a great area for car hauling. Rates are good because nobody (including me) wants to go there. So it sounds like your only hangup is insurance. Not sure what on hook is, maybe for tow trucks? In this business you need 1mil liability and 150k cargo for a 3 car. If they won't quote you that I would keep shopping. Try small independent insurance agents

I meant to say the cargo insurance will be expensive. There aren't a lot of companies writing car hauling policies. With a semi & 7 car, you'll need 250/1 mil policy. A 3 car wedge & dulley should be cheaper.
Have you looked at leasing on with someone to get the experience first? I was looking at a 7 car, but since I haven't hauled cars in 16 years, I'm told I'm basically a new insurance risk. If I make the move I was just going to lease on and run under their insurance to get the experience before I get my own authority.

1,000 mile radius is perfect for your area. I'm not sure if Progressive still does it but when I had them they allowed me to go out of radius up to 21 days a year. Used any way I wanted. If that's the deal for you let me know. I'll tell you how to work it right.

Cargo ins is the hardest to get and that may be a problem for you with a background. When applying for cargo they do look at you closely. It's the perfect scam for a dishonest trucker to rip off a load of IPhones or something similar.

Are you sure that the insurance is going to be cheaper? I know a few people who have leased on and thier insurance went up.

I meant a wedge should be cheaper then a 7 + car. I believe you only need 150/1mil instead of 250/1mil.

Yea I got 1 mill liability and 150k cargo so if I'm doing 4 cars how much cargo should I have?

Do you know of any companies that would hire me with my dwi and 3 felonies? Only reason I'm going this route is because I'm been shut down by like 200 companies running out of options and need to do something for my family...who specifically told you that your new risk? Insurance or brokers?

Maybe someone can answer that with more authority. I think it depends on the shippers requirements.
