When you graduate with from the MTI school and go out with your trainer how does the process work? Is it just you and your trainer, do you start out driving right away, or does the trainer work you into driving? Is there alot of backing practice, driving through big cities , going through rural towns and roads? I guess do you pretty much train the same terrain that you will be on when you solo?

I'm a trainer with Millis, so I'll try to answer your questions.
Yes it is just you and your trainer in the truck, we are instructed to have the student drive AT LEAST 25 percent of the time during the first week. My current student will have 2000 miles done in his first 7 days. So you will most likely drive more than 25 percent your first week. In the following weeks the percentage goes up to where the last couple weeks you are doing all the driving. While in the truck with your trainer you will
1) learn to shift better using the techniques given to you by him/her
2) learn pretrip inspection
3) learn safe operation of the rig on all kinds of roads/conditions
4) be professional at all times
5) learn to communicate with dispatchers via qualcomm
6) learn proper documentation
7) learn how to communicate with shippers/receivers
8 ) safely drive up and down mountain terrain
9) learn how to properly secure loads
10) have fun
You will be in a truck with your trainer delivering the same loads as everyone else. So it's very much "real world experience"BronzeLion, Sexybuilt and Nightwind8830 Thank this. -
