hello guys as some of you already know i am from europe and interesting in trucking world wide

so i need some infos about turnpike doubles

so here are some of question

    -where they can operate?
only on highway? which states?(i notice some trucks from west have smaller trailer behind standard one i think that is called rocky mountain setup?)
also i notice that some motoways are calles turnpike is that mean that those combos can drive on them?

-is that a part of day limit for them for example does they can drive only at night?

-how heavy are they i found some info about 140 000lbs
( if it is correct that could be problem if you have 80000lbs standard truck semi and about 19000lbs truck so trailer alone is about 61000lbs dolly is ~4000 that create 80000 +65000lbs so that means 2500lbs less load per trailer )

-how long they can be i heard that only 48foot trailers can be used

and i notice on videos and pictures that cab is often really short is that because of law or because of maneuverability

    also question

-does any trailer can be used to pull dolly and another or it need to be stronger ?

-and how fast they can drive

    thanks in advance

I believe most doubles are configured for overall length.
There also may be weight issues.
As far as I know there are no other restrictions on doubles.
Some states allow tripples, I pulled a set yesterday, all I needed to be legal was a long load sign and the pilots endorsement.

Poor little Big Cam didn't like it much..... :^)

When I was doing LTL, I regularly pulled double 48's and got a few of the early 53's and run double with them. Required a day cab tractor with short wheel base. We were permitted for 121 ft overall length. I pulled more triples on a regular basis than the long doubles. We ran double axle dollies under the double 48's. We were permitted to 95,000 lb where we ran (primarily KS and OK, with only double pups into TX). The long doubles usually had lighter truckload freight in them as opposed to LTL freight.

During the big Teamsters strike in '93 (as best as I recall), we pulled several stunts in what we were pulling. A couple of nights, I pulled out of KC headed for Wichita on the KS turnpike with double 48's and a pup trailer behind that! KDOT put a stop to it real soon. They were waiting at the first service plaza and had us pull in and drop the back wagon. Actually, they were quite respectful that the strike was on and we were getting so much overflow freight. But, they were not going to allow us to pull this stunt anymore.
