I know you guys have been driving for a while. I know most are going to laugh at this, but I’m looking to haul dry van. No doubles, tanker, steel, reefer, etc... the best thing I have seen around me in Ohio is 1.70 a mile and that’s hauling containers. I live 20 min from Delaware, OH the distribution center for Kroger and KL Breeden&Sons is only paying a 1.50 a mile. So my question to you guys is who pays the most around Columbus, OH hauling dry van. Continuum looked pretty good at 1.70 a mile going to Berea, KY everyday. Home every day. They paid your first years plates, etc... wanting to know what you guys think? Thanks a lot! Looking to be home every night, but willing to stay out also. Thanks again guys, be safe!!!

Use the $1.70 loads to cover your gas to get to the higher paying areas and stay there for a week or two. From what I've been seeing, the Midwest has been pretty cheap for the last month or two. Here is the west, you can haul $2 to $2,50 loads all day without trying.Living in a cheap freight area and wanting to be home every night won't make you any money.
Dino soar, Intothesunset, PE_T and 2 others Thank this. -
Thank you sir! I really appreciate it! I did all the math. The fuel, break downs, Truck payment, heavy highway taxes, etc... I was still in the clear pretty good, but no since I’m driving crazy where a lot more money can be made! I hauled containers for a crook as a O/O and Company Driver. So I know how good and bad it can be to be a O/O. MMT our of Columbus, OH was the worst ever! Kevin would cheat you out of your fuel surcharge, lied on what the loads were paying, detention pay, etc... he never even gave me my 1,000 dollar escrow back!! Live and learn lol.SteveScott Thanks this.

That’s what you run into as a Company driver working for a crook hauling containers!!

Do you have your own authority?

Nope, I thought about getting it, but I was going to lease on with someone. I didn’t know if it would be worth it for me, or not.

If they pay the way other terminals do, that's not too bad. I ran for them out of Champaign (now Drake Refrigerated) for a time. With them I made a loop. Might have one stop. Might have 6 stops. But I got paid for all miles. Even the empty miles. Stop pay and fuel surcharge too. Also made decent money doing hand unloads. And was home every day. Would have preferred to be home every night. But it worked for me at the time. Not saying they are great and everyone needs to drive for them. Just saying you could do a lot worse. And Delaware may not operate like Champaign.Bfr38 Thanks this.

And there is always Mercer (which I'm leased on with) or Landstar. Both have van divisions. Don't know much about LS, but the van haulers I've spoken to at Mercer seem pretty happy.Bfr38 Thanks this.
