Running team with your father as a teenager doesn't really count as experience unless you were driving. You should get a couple years of experience with somebody else before taking the plunge and getting your own truck. I realize you think you know everything about the business and are confident in your driving abilities, but in reality you have a lot more to learn.

 

If you just graduated school, you're probably not going to be able to lease on to anyone.

And if you just graduated school, your insurance rates, if you can get insurance, are going to be astronomical.

You probably are going to have to work somewhere at least for a year or two before anyone will take you on.

 

No proof of experience, age, are both against you as far as insurance but.... I was always told everything I couldn't do when I was younger. I succeeded at ALL OF IT. Tryon is in PA you might call and talk to them, actually call and questions to a few companies before spending $$$ on any truck. And this is not a game, if it's not truly in your heart you will fail.

 

Agree with the above statements.

I won't say that you can't do it. But the odds are stacked heavily against you. Best to sign up as a company driver for a year or 2. Learn about the freight lanes, etc. Then get your own thing going.

 

Start calling for insurance rates first thing.

I had an agent tell me that she signed someone for $26,000 a year, which is completely mentally insane.

The less amount of time that you have had your CDL the higher your rates will be from what I understand.

 

I can tell you with a new license fresh out of school you're not going to find any place that you can lease on to.

So if you're dead set on what you want you're going to have to get a truck and a trailer and get your own authority and run brokered Freight. You can run all day and all night and all you want.

And I'm sure you're going to have to for whatever that insurance will cost you.
