Question, Just bought a 26ft International 3400. that was sitting for a while. The owner used quick engine starting fluid, to get it running. I just tried to start it and it did not start. I know if I use the spray it will start. What could the issue be? Or what other options do I have? Thanks

Well diesel engines are not all the same.

If you have glow plugs not working it is a big big No-No to use starting fluid.

I don't know necessarily about trucks but there are certain diesel engines they tell you to not use starting fluid at all ever on them like my backhoe for example. You have to check with the manufacturer.

Aside from that, if it is cold out plug it in and if you have fuel problems you're going to have to fix it if you're losing prime.

And by the way if for whatever reason you decide to use ether be very very very careful.

Ether is like liquid Dynamite. You can blow the compression right out of the Rings.

I once had a guy the gave me a truck because the guy working for him shot it with either one morning and broke the crankshaft.

Ether is extremely dangerous to an engine and you have to be very careful and only use it if it's positively necessary and use only the tiniest amount that you can.

And the last thing that I'll say is that if the engine itself has low compression it will have a hard time starting without either .

Fuel pump lost it's prime. Non-glow plug motors, and I don't think there are many of those with glow plugs around now, ether won't harm the engine, but you clearly have a fuel delivery problem. I've had some folks run 2 cycle Detroits on ether for several minutes. You probably have the DT466, and a good motor, and I think the fuel pump has a hand primer.

Year? Any DTC’s? May need a pc and a manual fuel pressure gauge.
