Good god. People do not understand sarcasm. I'm a company driver ATM and won't be an OO for another year or so.
I have no delusions of making $3.00 a mile average let alone $6.00

Landstar wasn't around when he learned flatbedding. He so old, he was trained by Wells Fargo and running the Pony Express westbound.....nightgunner, blairandgretchen, QuietStorm and 2 others Thank this.

Where did he say he's making $6 bucks a mile?
-
I had no formal training, learned in the oil patch in the early seventy's,
It's all common sense, but it seems there is very little of that left.
Who said you can't make $6 a mile?RollingRecaps, Lite bug, villageidiot and 2 others Thank this. -
That's me, I learned riding with my granddad in the 70's early 80's.
I met you Tuesday afternoon in East Tennessee on I 40. I was headed east bound, tried to shout on the cb but had blown a fuse and it wasn't working...blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
I'll be leasing onto Landstar, getting my security clearance while learning flatbed and oversize.
Maybe with my own authority and an oversized haul contract I could see getting an occasional $6.00 mile run, hell that'd make me happy as hell. But first year out with it taking 9 months to get my clearence and to get proficient with flat and oversize, I'm just hoping to average $2.00 a mile (and not wait around for days at a time to get that rate.) -
Yep they have a two day session, from what the told me I could take it as many times as I felt I needed if I were to go platform. I'm too old for that crap....
Now as far as the freight money goes.... with a van home based in WA, I booked an averaged of $2.16 per mile all miles last year (96k miles). netting $1.63 to the truck all miles. Of course I stay outa the east and Midwest cheap freight unless I get bribed to come off the west coast. I don't sit unless I want to.
I would hope that a platform in your area could do better than me on the $/mile game.
The down time between loads would be a concern.
I tend to look at revenue per day to decide if I want a load..blairandgretchen and T-BoneX Thank this. -
WhoopNride, Is this what you saw?
I'm embarrassed, my first load all month under $6 a mile (just barely)and someone saw me hauling cheap freight.
blairandgretchen, whoopNride, T-BoneX and 1 other person Thank this. -
The shame!!!

I really didn't pay attention to the load, just recognized the Petercar. I think it was around the 40/75 split west of Knoxville.
