I did it three weeks ago and still haven't heard anything. I haven't been to the post office to check my box in a week though, it may be there

How do they know you are the one that answered the questions to the test? or is there no test? I just thought there was a test that you have to do.
If it's done via mail, phone or computer how do they really know you are the one that answered them questions?
Just curious and not really sure how it works, just thought you had to take the test when you renewed:biggrin_25521:

You now have to have this new security level accomplished, and approved, just to be eligible to take the written test to obtain the endorsement. In other words, you must be "pre-approved" by Transportation Security Administration / Homeland Security prior to taking the HAZMAT knowledge test.

The questions you answer, via their web page, are biography questions concerning things like name, address, SSAN, birthday, etc (like a credit application). You prove who you are when you show up to be fingerprinted by providing proof positive identifications and a verification number you get when you've finished the on-line application, and anti-ed up your money.

I see your from my state--did you have your hazmat before the fingerprinting stage started? I am just curious because I got my hazmat before they did the fingerprinting and background checks--is this good until my renewal or is there a limit on the hazmat endorsement. I have searched the DMV website but cant find out. I dont want my endorsements running out but I have heard some people say hazmat is only good for a couple years. So--would you know if its good till my renewal?

Here I am, thinking it was MY State. Isn't Winston-Salem a suburb of Pilot Mountain?

Yes, I held the "X" endorsement prior to the new fingerprint and background check requirements.

The endorsement last until the CDL needs to be renewed.

I called the NCDMV drivers license office and they were very knowledgeable and helpful on this subject.

I thought it would be good till renewal but i have heard things about takin it every 2 yrs or something and I would hate to be busted for a hazmat if it ran out. LOL I was just wondering--thx for the info! :biggrin_2559:

that's not how it works here. I had to take the knowledge test then they send you for fingerprinting and at that time they allow you the honor f writing them a $78 check for the background check. Then when it is done you get a letter in the mil from them and then you will get another letter from the state telling you tht you can go to the testing station and get your license

Ya i am pretty sure its like that here now but when i got my hazmat endorsement--it was before the fingerprinting and background check. All we had to do back then was take the test and pass and pay $3 (i think) for the endorsement itself. So i was just makin sure it was gonna be good until renewal time with "this new way" of hazmat goin on.

It has got too stop!! Come on now!! I'm not a terrorist or nothing, but I could just go to a truck stop and bump a driver in the head and drive off with a load of fuel.. The Hazmat thing is just another tax.:biggrin_25523:
