Not the same at all, if they terminate you while on LOA your now eligible for unemployment, As far as giving away your job, never even been a consideration, these companies need drivers more than drivers need them, A driver with a good record will not be out of work any longer than need.
When I left May Trans. at that point and time they were dinging drivers for money when they left, Using LOA option they never had the chance to ding my check, got my pay then simply told them I would not be back, They could not post there crap of quitting under dispatch or any of the stuff they were doing back then. Worked well.dwells40 Thanks this. -
Again, I doubt the employee has the right to a LOA. You can ask, but with only 2 days on the job, I doubt it would be granted.
Me after 2 days on the job: Can I have a LOA?
Boss: Why?
ME: Something came up?
Boss: What?
ME: None of your business. I'm a truck driver and I am in demand. Give me a LOA
Boss: Good drivers are in demand. Guys like you are a dime a dozen. The answer is no
ME: I quit. You'll be hearing from my lawyer. They are called TVC
Boss: (laughing) Don't let the door hit you
So in the end, I still quit, I don't get unemployment and I didn't get my 2 days pay. It might've shown up in the mail in a week if I wasn't such a dick but now he might make me waitLast edited: May 16, 2019

I would think they'd be able to see the writing on the wall so to speak and just say you're fired.rank Thanks this.

How long would it take you to deliver the load, and then return the truck to the company? Is there anything that would make operating the equipment “unsafe” ? In the end your gonna have to make the decision, If these people are the nobs you say they are, do you really want them to get the last laugh by giving them a valid reason to blackball you. I’ve worked for some real losers, but I’ve always kept my pride and ethics intact, and never abandoned a truck or a load. This has been more for me than for them.rank Thanks this.

You ever heard of DAC, hirerite, or tenstreet. Most major companies report and verify thru these companies. Just not listing them on an application doesn’t work anymore, and is considered a fraudulent application.COBB2070 Thanks this.

While it may happen, that would be the worst thing the company can do.
Not only do they have to replace the employee (was going to happen anyway), they get to also pay unemployment as he was fired instead of quitting. -
no never heard of that. So the cops are gonna lock you up for "fraudulant" application? who cares just dont list the company.
-
I didn’t say you’d get locked up for lying on an application, but a respectable company, AKA one that pays anything close to livable wages, won’t hire you.

Maybe things have changed, but quitting under a load, or abandoning equipment use to always be cardinal sins in this industry.
