I get percentage but the company does not show me any rate cons. When you make a deal is the price on the rate con the total? Or is a fuel surcharge added? I feel like I am getting the % but without a fuel surcharge seems low. Not the only thing I find suspicious... I have to use there fuel card but pay pump rate, I believe he keeps the discount on fuel from the card. Is that normal?

Normal if they want to screw you out of your fuel discount. What card are you using? Which fuel network in Canada? Some cards offer no discount. You can save 8-10k a year just from that. This was just one of the main factors I went on my own. Will your carrier allow you to use your own fuel card? Some may not, for 2 reasons: it makes for more ifta calculations by adding up each trucks receipts, and, they want to keep the discount. Fuel cards can show all purchases in detail and add up quantities by jurisdiction making it much easier for ifta filing.
Rate con almost always is an all in rate. If it's from brokers. If it's rate cons through a direct customer, there may be an amount added for fuel.sexyredhead and Lepton1 Thank this. -
I use my company fuel card and get around 30-40 cents off per gallon. In same boat when it comes to my percentage tho, got no clue what load really pays, just what my company "says" it pays. But i do get decent fuel surcharges almost every load ($348 right now on 900 mile run) so all in all im not complaining. My settlements do show my fuel surcharge income separate from my linehaul percentage, so i know i am getting paid the surcharge. If ur employer is keeping surcharges and fuel discounts, that adds up to be a hell of a lot real quick.

RTS card. Is it typical to pay in Canadian dollars? I feel like some of his rate cons could be in U.S dollars and I get Canadian or he doesn't get that he is taking runs at $2.21/mile Canadian which is 1.69/ U.S.

Some Canadian, some USD. I do more in USD.
He may be converting it all into cdn$. I have considered how I'd do it, and I'd probably do the same.
I don't have any first hand info on rts cards. I use efs. My best price for this area is currently at the Windsor husky. Had I bought fuel there today, my rate would have been 1.18, all taxes in. Cdn$ per litre.
Those rates seem very weak, especially right now. And I bet you give up a hefty % out of that as well...sexyredhead Thanks this. -
Very few mention or note the fuel surcharge. Seems like most people are just doing straight rate nowadays.sexyredhead Thanks this. -
By law, if one is paid on percentage the documents proving such must be produced upon request. They're not going to volunteer that information when they are ripping you off. If you really think they're burning you then forced their hand. If they don't produce hire a lawyer.
