My driver called me this morning and said that the rear end On the rig was cracked. I haven’t seen it yet for myself, but the way he describes I think he’s talking about the axle that runs into the actual rear end housing. What are my options on repairing something like that? Talked to my dad about it and he said it will run a couple thousand dollars to get someone to rebuild that. Any advice on which way I should go?

It does happen that where the suspension meets the axle housing it can form cracks due to loose or worn parts. Depending on how and where the cracking is, it can certainly be welded. The other option is replacing the housing.

Not to be a jerk, but if you don't know exactly what's wrong, how can anyone give advice? Step 1, find out exactly what's wrong. Can the driver take some pictures of the crack? Post some pics and you'll probably get a bunch of answers.
