We replaced the rear main seal on an N13 IH. Didnt take a reference note on how deep the seal sits. Looking at it it looks like its not sitting deep enough. The 2nd lip of the seal is not touching the crank. We did use the installation tool. Flywheel housing was not removed. Tool used, ZTSE4875 Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal Installer Tool Alternative 373-4726

We have an engine on the floor right now. I can take a picture of it Monday. It's an A26, but it all the same. Normally, the tool will bottom out and that is all there is to it.
Rideandrepair, Big Road Skateboard and 062 Thank this. -
Pic would be nice for future reference. Im just used to seeing the end of the crank stick out a bit. It looks like the convex shape of the flywheel will make it all good but who knows. You cant see in there.

I have done those. That is a 2 peice seal. note how the end of the crank sticks out beyond the seal. The N13 has a one peice seal.

I understand, but it isn't my point.
The seal driver has a step that stops when the seal is deep enough or should.
I don't have my books here with me, they are at my shop, but I think it seats almost all the way down, which the seal driver is supposed to make sure happens. -
Not all seal drivers have a step. For this aplication there is no step. It stops when it touches the flywheel housing. I trusted the tool and sent it. I hope it dosent come back. That flywheel is heavy. lol.
