Howdy,
Career change for me ahead. I am leaving the job I have had since I was 18 years old. How old am I ?..My wife recently took a picture of the first AARP solicitation letter I received in the mail and proceeded to laugh at me on Facebook
Yes, I am a little nervous. Yes, I know I can do this..and YES, I know I will miss my wife and children but it is "for my familys sake" that I am making this change. Since growing up on a farm, I have always loved to drive anything that will move. I love to drive on trips and I have been driving at my current job but never larger than class B, straight jobs. The stress and lack of job security have pushed me over the brink and the massive pay cut has iced the cake.
I respect you all and have long wanted to experience driving class A. It will now be the thing that can save my future. People don't come running to you at 50 years old and offer you jobs even if you are in good health and are willing to bust your hump. I guess I am saying hello and looking for your reassurance. I talk to all the local drivers that pull into my dock at work. They tell me it isn't a bed of roses but it is a decent living.
I have been teasing my wife and listening to Red Sovine and she wants to hurt me. I tell her "but Honey..I am a trucker" and she barks at me, "Not yet"...she is the best and supports me, my kids understand and I have their love and understanding.
I am looking forward to meeting you all on the road soon and learning from you all, giving you all the respect you deserve and I hope to be welcomed in return...This industry will be the only career change I have made in 31 years..I hope to fit in
Thanks,
Daniel (now she is laughing at me again..too #### sentimental I am)
Reassure me ?

Good luck and best of luck to you. If you are ever in the Minnesota area shoot me an email ahead of time and maybe we will run into each other. Welcome and good luck onto your new path of life...

good luck in your venture--if you have any questions fire away
For My Familys Sake Thanks this. -
I could reassure you but! I won't. This life is hard on a family, there will be times you scratch your head and ask WTF was I thinking? But If you push through the first few years it gets easier. If you make it through the next few years it gets a bit easier. But mainly you need to know the good days are over. No more kind aid from fellow truckers. Most of the new breed truckers are selfish, cold and unremorseful. But you have a few that still try to help you if they get a chance. Good luck see you out there. I hope I don't sound too disheartining but that is the truth.

Ouch..(kidding)
I dont have many choices and I hope that it isnt as bad as you say, on the whole. I have been pretty beaten up in the last two years and cant afford to pay the bills. There is no-one more sentimental than I about family but it will be what drives me. I have no other way to obtain experience in any industry and still support my family. I am realistic..it wont be easy. But that is why I chose this name on the forum..I can and I have to make this workshriner75 Thanks this. -
will do an I need mention that I am a life long Vikings fan..
-
Well now all I have to say is that not everybody is perfect especially the Viking fans....Being a Texan born and raised the first years of my life I am true to "Luv ya blue" well at least when the the Houston Oilers existed, but now am a Texans fan.
But Ill still meet ya for a cup of coffee any time. Again good luck and stay strong cause only they are the ones that will make it. -
I hope to be in training for PRIME before August. As was suggested by many, I will (God willing)...drive Company and see how things work out and then maybe consider Lease. Whatever the case I need consistant work, a decent salary and I NEED experience.

Eagle Eye, you are right,,,to a point. I do believe that if a driver needs help, and asks for it, he will get it. I am one that will help any driver that needs my help, whether it looks like a driver is having a problem with backing or just call's out over the CB for help. I feel that todays drivers have a hard time asking for any help but, that is not only the case. A lot of drivers don't even turn their CB on or have one in the truck to begin with. So, if a driver does hollar for help, no one answers because no one hears. I guess those drivers just don't see the big picture and the reason they turn off their CB is due to launguage, which I understand. But, I feel it is more important to have the CB on for road conditions, blown tire or someones help is needed than my personal feelings on launguage.
For My Family's Sake; You will do just fine and I can already tell that you will be the driver of today with old day morals. In other words, you will work hard, have respect, do whatever it takes to get the job done, (legally of course), and you will do better in this business, (lifestyle), than most.
Good luck my friend,,,and welcome to the Great AdventureFor My Familys Sake Thanks this. -
yeah, I knew I posted that at risk...
