Hello, all.
I recently applied for and was turned down for a job with Wright Transport due to not having any recent OTR experience. I have driven Tractor-trailer since 1997 and dump truck from 1995-1997 with an absolutely flawless record. I am at a loss on what to do to overcome this as I don’t want to have to get sucked into someone’s or some companies’ lengthy training program and be treated like I’ve never touched a truck in my life and, be on the hook for it financially. Any help/advice from my brothers and sisters in the industry will be greatly appreciated.

We need more info to really help you....
- What city/state is closest to you?
- What CDL endorsements do you have (if any)?
- Any criminal history?
- So...you have years of CDL experience--it's just all local area driving, correct?
- Did you pass the DOT physical for Wright Trans?
Lav-25 Thanks this. -
1. Mobile, AL
2. Class A - Endorsements: P, T, X
3. No criminal record
4. OTR from 1998-2000 & 2006-2007. Regional from 2000 - 2006. Florida, Georgia & Alabama all other years.
5. I have a current Medical card. Wright did not send me for a physical. -
General freight volumes are definitely down, of late...producing a freight recession in places.
Thus--depending on who you apply with, where...and when...you may well get the "cold shoulder."
These people will probably leave a better taste in your mouth:
AMX -- based out of Ashford, AL
They do dry van, as well.

You may have to be prepared to do a refresher course. Just to double check, you haven't driven at all since 2006? Even locally?

If you haven't driven since 2006 you will need some kind of training. No company in their right mind will just toss you the keys and let you run.
15 years is a long time and you'll at least have some rust to knock off. A quick "refresher course" is in your future if you want to drive again.Savor the Flavor Thanks this. -
I have been driving since 2006. No gap except for I haven’t done it in a daily basis in the last year. Just once or twice a week.

I have been driving the whole time, no gap except for over the road. The ONLY exception is that I have driven daily in the last 12 months, just once or twice a week.
