Back in the day, reefers would park in one area of a truckstop, as would livestock haulers so the noise/smell wouldnt bother everyone.

Yeah and these days if you pull into a spot so you can sleep nice with a dry load on then some reefer driver pulls in beside you OR you're in the spot with the unit running and some dry van or flat bedder or parking lot pulls in and makes a comment about your unit or asks ME to move because he can't sleep with a reefer running! Yeah right moron you better back out while there are no trucks in the lot or your rookie arse is going to be stuck there till tomorrow when everyone is making their deliveries! Works every time!
But, what really bites me is the morons who will actually shut your unit off! I have only caught one and he wasn't ready for the arse beating he took and the drill sargent screaming in his face about how much his arse could pay if the unit didn't start or if I had not woke up when it shut down and ruined a load of meat! If he ever reached for another off switch I didn't do a good enough job! But I guess he might have been fired after I called his boss about it.!
As for those buzzers, unplug it unless it cuts the circuit off then get the shop to run it through a switch on the door. When the door opens it will buzz to warn a mechanic but with the door closed it's off as it's not needed if the doors are shut. If it does shut the circuit off then use a paper clipm and gouge the "speaker" out. the circuit is still good but the speaker part is dead.
Those buzzers are as useful as Meltons back up beepers that go on and off 5,6,7 times while they try to freaking back into the hole next to you!ironpony Thanks this. -
I'll be sure to look for ya, and turn it on full blast ultra mega-screaming-rocket afterburner mode. Why just go for a little "irritating", I say!

On Wednesday I pulled a dry load and tried to take a nap at the receiver. Without the reefer going and with no trucks idling next to me I couldn't sleep. I don't care where the noise comes from, I need it anymore.
There's only one noise that I can't sleep through. It's a clock that ticks. It drives me nuts. -
Reefer MADNESS!
DirtyBob and Panhandle flash Thank this. -
I don't often pull a refrigerated trailer, but on those rare loads where I do, I will try and look for 2 other reefers to park between. If they leave, and a dry van parks next to me, oh well....it's on him as HE parked next to ME.
-
Oh yea I will take the reefer over a ticking clock. That makes me crazy. I'm still new to otr so sleeping with these noises still affect me. But I tell ya when I go home I miss the truck I have so much trouble sleeping at home.

I would rather park next to a reefer than a bull hauler...Most bull haulers & reefer drivers will park together or away from everybody if they can though...
ironpony Thanks this. -
Bull SIERRA may smell like "money" to a bull hauler, but it smells like bull SIERRA to me! Besides, them #### things squirt that stuff!

I can deal with the noise from a reefer, I'll park head-in to keep the noise at the other end of the dry vans from their cabs or go out to the south 40, but the bull haulers aren't parking next to me for very long. I'll move. Without complaint. -
When i pulled reffers back in the 90's , i didnt mind it one bit, the starting and shaking the truck , plus the opti idel on the truck put me right too sleep, course i ran mostly night's, the thing that got me the most was the pop , pop air valve on the next truck too me, it go off every ten mins and he had the revs turn up high too , so the big elertic fan would come on and sound like a torando, i always try too be nice and park way out in the back 40 on unplowed ground, but if i cant , i got me a boise headphones and my mozart and im out like a light, funny thing this as i got off the road, it's too quite, so i leave a box fan running on med at the end of bed for noise,
