What did you learn exactly.. how to anticipate these outcomes?
With these "click and book" apps it is a good idea to call the receivers and ask them if all is lined up for the delivery. Some receivers have their real phones hidden and it takes some creativity to look them up. I do call especially on outbound loads that are too far from home. For inbounds, I don't care as much. The worst that can happen is me waiting at home and claiming layover. -
Yes. How to handle the situation.

I would make them pay exactly 2 times your rate. Not your fault it was rejected, so why should you lose money? You can always sell a load of pallets...Tlivey12 Thanks this.

I only pay for mistakes I make and those of very close business contacts. If you pay me $2 a mile to haul one way, I am not going back the other way for 50 cents.

ime the receivers rarely/almost never answer the phone.Tlivey12 Thanks this.

Then don't move the load. Call before you leave.
Tilvey, always remember that around a holiday is prime time to get screwed. People just decide to close up shop and go home. I've gotten burned that way before but not as bad as you did.
I hope things improve for you. -
You truncated my post in which I also said that it may take some more effort than simply finding a number by Google.
For instance, in order for me to find a good number to a Walgreens DC (I think Windsor CT) I called two individual stores nearby. The one found on Google was not responding.
