When you scan your logs from a truckstop it is like a fax machine. You keep the original and your company gets the copy faxed to them.

There is no law on loose leaf. I have taken the staple out of company logbooks. Think about it. Do you want DOT going through your logbook from two or three weeks ago. Most companies will tell you its against there policy. I say the heck with them. They are not the ones at the scale house getting a Level 1 inspection. Besides, it leaves a window of opportunity for the inspector.

I think he is talking about those annoying ones you have to do a special way that the company then scans after you turn it in.

That was the first thing I learned today. Thank you.

So he can still do it loose leaf. I'm sure he doesn't scan each page still in the book, right? There would be NO way I would ever go back to logging in a book again.

Your welcome. I loose leaf. After I scan the log I put a check mark on the bottom of it so I know I already scanned it. If they say they did not get one I just send it again the next time I stop.

The company does not know if you are doing loose leaf or not! Number one lesson for all you drivers who like to ask that question in orientation.

All DOT requires is that you have the last 7 days logs and the current day! Meaning that log for today should be drawn to the drive line if you are driving (usually if you are getting pulled over).

Now DOT officers/cops will be like ok he/she is running a lose leaf or tearing pages out and it may make them look at you closer. So make sure you are being legit about why you are doing what you are doing.

I did have a driver copying the logs from a truck stop log book to the company log book and the officer got him for 2 log books. So whatever you do!
Do not offer this information. Just give them the truck stop log book! It's ok! If you have all the proper information there is no problem.

Now if you are doing loose leaf what you may understand to prevent any problems is to take the staples out of the log book and put any whole punches or markes in the perferated area! Do NOT put any whole punches on the actual log sheet! This can become a problem with logging "scanning software".

Just fill the logs out! Make them legal (meaning what you have ACTUALLY DONE) and if you make a mistake you should be able to x or white out and put your intital which makes it easier on you and hopefully we get the logs with no PROBLEMO:biggrin_2559::biggrin_25521:

Either way just make sure you are not damaging the "log sheet" itself.
You can put whole punches on the perferrated area! All log books have this!
Just tear them out like a piece of paper in a notebook :)
