Any idea how he worked out the ECM harness? Did he wire it in himself?
Regards
Edited to clarify.
I was asking about 3406E but failed to make that clear. Thanks for the reply either way.

Scratch that, I was asking about 3406E, thought you had a typo, haha, but it's me missing the details here. 3406B is mechanical. I'm in a different spot with the ECM. I'm trying to put a 3406E in.
Thanks anyway.

Awesome! Thank you! That's great to know- I'll see if I can find them. I gotta tell you, your response reads a little like the beginning of a fairytale haha... Sounds like a magical place! Thanks for the tip!

No need to be sorry, I appreciate the reply. Kudos to your brother for making it work!

Think I have their site saved on my home PC.

That'd be great! The only one I found there so far that mentions custom harnesses specializes in classic cars etc.
If you've gotta name for the place, it'd be much appreciated.

The biggest issue you might run into is the communications. The Prostar will be communicating with the engine using the SAE J1939 datalink. The older CAT ECM might still be on the older J1587 datalink. The 2 are not cross-compatible as far as I'm aware. May require a lot of wiring modifications.
I believe there was a member on here that did a 3406E swap into a newer Peterbilt and had to convert all the gauges and switches to analog.Last edited: Nov 21, 2020
Lookunderthetruck Thanks this. -
That's a big issue indeed. Heavyd mentioned the datalink incompatibility as well. I suspect that's why custom harness makers take every order but this one. A little too custom and certainly over my head to attempt all the modifications myself. I'm going to dig a little more, then likely, and reluctantly, put this idea to bed.
Putting a 3406E into a newer Peterbilt seems like an interesting swap. Wonder if that was inspired by a love for CAT or a disdain for Paccar. Kudos to that member for getting it done! Wish I had the know-how to make it happen without the elusive, if not impossible, custom harness.
Thanks for the replies, your insights are much appreciated!
