I like parking at rest areas... and depending on where I am, I prefer rest areas cause they are close to the highway, saves me time and if I can arrive early and get a good spot, it's easy out... And since I don't need restaurants cause I cook in the truck, I only go to a truck stop if I really need a shower or fuel... '
One day I parked at a OH rest area early evening.. I think it was I-271... at 23:30 I heard knock knock on my door... I ignored first time, but then, it was louder and louder... I got soooo psssd... Opened my curtain and was about to shout some profanity when I saw a DOT officer... :biggrin_2554: funny... we both got startled and surprised for a second or 2.. :biggrin_2556:
And I said... "Oh... is it you? I am sorry sir... but at this time, someone knocking on my door like that, I though it was a prostitute or some bum or vagrant..." :biggrin_2552:
He was as surprised as I was... Asked if I intended to take my break there...
I answered.... ehh... Yeah... I was in the sleeper berth and you woke me up... and you scared me... :biggrin_25510:
He said he was "checking" on folks in the rest area...
Me, "oh... thank you for making sure this place is safe... I am glad you are here... but I really must go back to bed."
He, "I am sorry, madam, I woke you up.. You have a good night".
Me, "thank you officer, you too."

The following day, I encountered a highway patrol officer at the truck stop nearby and asked him why the officer came knocking on my door the night before... was there any problem in that rest area? He didn't know of anything and said that although they go to rest areas checking out on folks, because some bums and vagrants use to hang out there, blah, blah, blah.. the officer wasn't supposed to knock on my door in the middle of the night like that...

Any self serve whatever at the truck stop isn't getting a sale from my wallet just for that very reason... See way to many drivers walk right of the restroom without washing hands.... You can forget about the buffet, I don't care if it's free, I won't touch it

I usually yell What! Really loud. If I get out of bed I might not get back to sleep fast.

One time I heard I knock knock. Ignored. Knocked again. I yelled, What! Guy says, I'm towing trucks, you can't park here. I say, thanks. I'll be gone once I find my pants. He chuckled, and I left.

I think it should be against the law. They are bio terrorist. Seriously. Spreading diseases. I'd support an armed guard right at the sink with a quick draw machete. Wash em or lose em, your choice.

So order from the menu.. everyone has good reasons. I do wash up .. If some don't wash up in truck stops where else will they do it ? Rest area's, Grocery store's, you name it.

I'm not fond of rest area's is all

You refuse to let them inspect you , you think they are just going to go away ? One of them will be waiting for you. As far as your post , I may have talked into your ear.

I wouldn't refuse. Refuse in a legal sense wouldn't work as well as. I'm off duty, and that's it. I'm off duty.

I posted from experience. And they did just go away. As they did with @Rocks , and plenty of other drivers who stand up for their rights.
