Those radio are consider to be a bigger radio even though they dont break 100 watts(with a proper tune)i personally dont see any point of putting one of those amps behind it..Amp is not alot more than the radio itself...
If it were me i wouldnt bother with all the extra work, maintainence and issues unless it was "atleast" 500+ watts....
Putting a small amp on a radio like that is like puttin a race air filter on a 90's honda civic and expecting to see a big change..Last edited: Apr 13, 2018
stacks and jessejamesdallas Thank this. -
They’re a good choice with a standard CB. Ought to be matched up so input power to amp is correct.
One can work fairly hard at getting a company truck antenna system decent. And it’s still not good. These little amps will help in getting heard.
The stock invisible antenna on the latest Cascadia is such a critter. Put the amp on, and can finally get a response from more than 100’ feet away.
It’s not perfect in this, it’s a halfway step.stacks Thanks this. -
I agree with craig. I wouldn't dream of adding an amp if I had a President Lincoln or Stryker 955. They are good to go outta the box
-
I was referring about the MK 1 president Lincoln
-
Thats just more power overcomming a bad antenna though..Its a band aid solution, not a fix
-
Craig, I wrote “half step”. You wrote “band aid”.
Getcha one. $75 for 75W. Like the guy in the former Stryker owner thread, put it with a Bearcat. A fine little backup rig. -
I have zero issues puttin an amp on any radio..Jjst make it worth while size...My radio will pep about 80ish watts,im not gonna add a 100 watt amp..Wasted time effort n $....With all the extra work of radio matching, maken sure you have lotsa bonding and quality coax and ends ect ect im gonna make my work worth it and go atleast 500 watts..jessejamesdallas and stacks Thank this.

To go with your backup. That little Bearcat you’re dying to try. Take up the same room as a dozen logbooks (that you no longer need past a spare)
stacks Thanks this. -
I use the 203P amp, matched to a Uniden 520 which is toned down to about a watt-and-a-half. This equipment set me back about 120 bucks, but it puts a solid 60 to 80 watts up-and-down the road. That's enough power to communicate as far as I'm interested in, since the radio is a tool for the road, not a hobby at the house.
As others have said, I wouldn't put a high-powered radio with the little amp. Not much to achieve doing that. The 203P likes only about one or two watts input.Last edited: Apr 14, 2018
