As I understand it, the measurement is taken Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, July-Sep, and Oct-Dec. The score is calculated during the month after each quarter ends, and any pay changes resulting from that take affect at the beginning of the following month (2nd month of the next quarter). For example, the July-Sep quarter ended, results were calculated during October, and pay changes take effect the beginning of November.

How about the 1 cent for safety? Can they remove that, if you've never gotten it in the first place? (Back history, screwed up and created a preventable in 1st month on the job)

The one cent safety bonus is reinstated 90 days from the accident, not based on quarter. Don't ask me how I know that. :)

Edit: Yeah, I was puzzled on your other post, if you went 90 days accident-free after your first one then you should have started getting the bonus again. If you hadn't made it to 90 days yet and then had another one, it starts the 90-day clock again. I read that in the DRG. (Yes, I actually read the entire DRG once, just for entertainment.)

I look at the DRG time to time as well. I was perplexed by the speed at which I was moved from Phase 3 to general Driver Population. Light speed I would say it was. Was only with the Phase 3 FM for 1 week. I got a hold of the Payroll people and they told me the quarters break down like first day/last day of Jan, Feb, Mar...etc.

Then found out I started my employment with my safety penny. I always thought I had to earn that back... and had a base start of 30 cents. Working for a safety bonus to make that 31 cents (this is what my fm thought I was making).
Payroll informed me it was base 29, with it being 30 w/safety penny.

I get that penny back if remain preventable/accident free till my b-day. 90 days. Next Qtr apparently starts Jan... month of my b-day.

Guess this qtr is a good one to practice for the next one. So far focusing on the whole S.7 and MPG. I find in the MPG, it's lousy no matter what I do, when I have an older trailer and 35,000-43,000 in load. But when I get a nice lighter load and the wings and tail on the trailer... it's awesome. In some ways, my heads spinning with the speed at which things are coming at me, lol...

    MPG w/heavy load: 7.0
    MPG w/light load: 8.5
    My Avg: 7.4

On MPG, I was once told by a couple instructors that many people have the RPMs way higher than necessary while shifting up -- that these newer engines don't get fazed at all by running at low RPMs. They can be "growling" and still be just fine, as long as they aren't "bucking." On my Prostar w/ Maxxforce, that means shifting before 1000 RPM in the lower gears, then at 1100 when reaching 8th and 1200-1300 going 9th into 10th. Basically they said shift as soon as your RPM in the next gear doesn't cause the engine to start bucking.

That, and driving with the cruise on at 61 rather than pedal down at 63, really helped. It is surprising how much more fuel is consumed at 63 than at 61 or 60.

Finally, the other thing I found on my Freightliner w/ Detroit Diesel is that when going up a hill, back off on the throttle when the turbo starts to really kick in, and keep it just on the edge of turbo singing until you reach the top and start going down the other side. It's a lot harder to hear the turbo on my Prostar than it was on the Freightliner so I can't use this technique now, but back when I had my Freightliner it made a very large improvement in my MPG.

With frieghtliners predictive cruise it works hard about halfway up the hill, then it very slowly starts to ease off and drops 2-3 mph below your set speed by the crest of the hill, even on one you could have maintained speed over. Then slowly picks up again on the downhill to your set speed. I will say its much nicer to have it set at 63 because I use it vs when it was 61 I didn't.
