Wouldent matter if you were able to kill it or not the engine will still have to be taken apart and checked out

If your clutch smoked or you drop the driveshaft you'd still have a blown engine. Stopping an engine at 3000+ rpm is simply too much shock for the driveline to handle.

I've also wondered what engaging the jake would do. I think it would definitely help. But the problem is jakes usually cut out above the rpm limiter.

I have had one run away with me . Running with one of my friends , his truck was faster and I had twice the weight. Pulled out and past him! I am asking what's wrong , why is he stopping . He yells back he's flat on the floor , and I'm up 20 some mph above governed speed. Toke foot off fuel , still got me pined back in the seat ! Turn key off , buddy still getting smaller in mirror. Get hard on the brakes and pull off on break down lane and finally get her stalled. Temp gauge was out of sight, oil burns hot as heck! Sat there waiting for wrecker , listening to 9/11 unfold ! Not fun , but you can stall one out!

Smoke is of the color of burning oil, so I suggest broken turbo. The only way to shut it down - use CO2 extingisher, not powder type.

Simple solution for this moron....high range, high gear...would have choked it right down. Been there, done that.

Don’t think I would have taken video, but I also wouldn't get beside an engine about to grenade. Jam it into gear and grenade the transmission that's right below me? No, thanks, the boss would be real happy to have to replace the engine and the tranny. Most of the trucks I've seen carry small powder abc fire extinguishers, not enough to smother the engine. Besides, you'll wanna keep that around for when the rod comes out the side of the block. No good way to win here.

See you all keep talking about it grenading. First its rare a motor grenades in a rig. Not impossible. Second if you act when you start to have a problem things are still perfectly safe. I have had 2 motors run away. One was even turned of for a couple minutes when she fired up and took off on us. We still saved both motors The first time I cut the air to air line and ripped my mud flap off and through it over the intake. it was already dying before I got the mudflap on. The second I used my standard ABC Fire ex straight into the air cleaner and yes it was a dual setup. That killed it real quick

I had to jam a fairly new '84 Mack 350 six speed into high to stall it out when mine took off on me. Took 2 hands to pull the shifter back into 6th and all my weight to stand on the brakes!

It ain't gonna grenade, it's gonna run out all the oil and the bearings will get hot and seize just like the one did in the vid.

The weak point at hi Rs is the valves start to float between 2 and 3K but the rotating assy. can take the fast RPMs.

An ABC fire extinguisher has some real abrasive stuff in them. If you blow a whole bottle into and engine it would be rebuild time anyway wouldn't it?? I would think the rings would be in bad shape.

Yup, agreed! Plus I imagine the idiot left the thing running when he first realized something was wrong. Even with a bit of oil getting in there you'd be able to see the smoke and easily be able to shut it down.

    Driver error 100%
