Yeah, I think there's a few states that limit to 12k, but most go by axle rating and most tires will get you 13200. Indiana and Mississippi are 12k according to the atlas and wisconsin is 13k.

You'll notice that at most scales there is another transponder reader in front of the scale. It's looking for red flashing transponders [that did not go in]. When it detects one a little alarm goes off. Whether they act on this is up to them and their preset manpower situation.

If you run the scale at Mt. Shasta they'll come after you. The fine for running the scale is a good source of revenue and they hate to let that go. Also, they can follow you down the hill to Dunsmuir, make you turn around, go back up the hill, turn around again, and procede through the scales.
There's no real way around it unless you want to travel inland.
Legalize your weight. -
I'm anywhere between 12,500 and 12,800 on steers last 4+ years and nobody seems to have a problem with it.

Dont even think about blowing a scale. The fines for blowing a scale are a lot more than what you get on an overweight ticket. Stupid idea actually. -
I've bypassed once, the one before the mountain on i5. It was so packed and congested, I would of rather went to jail then stop on that death trap. Otherwise I always stop, better be safe than dealing with DOT all day

You may be fine. But if you must run it... run after you get the red come inside sign!

I ran that scale and the DOT officer who pulled me over said "papers" so I says to him "scissors" and take off down the road. He must want to go best two out of 3, cuz he's been chasing me with his lights on for about 50 miles.
