I am not sure where you are located, in southern New York there are many carriers that do not run on the Sabbath, mostly Jewish operated businesses. I would look for a smaller carrier run by people of similar faith that would be more accommodating to a religious request. Not working on the Sabbath is not protected religious freedom so no employer is under any legal obligation to let you not work, only a moral one if the agree to it.

If you want a job buck up get over it and go to work. Maybe you get one off a month maybe you get them all off who knows. When did it become necessary for every company to cater to every employees different needs and wants. You want a job you hire on and go to work the hours you get. Not trying to be mean but if you want a job and need a job and are asking for a job it's pretty hard to say oh by the way I refuse to work from time a to time z every week.

This is the kind of stuff which prompted me to stop going to church.

Try McKee Foods in Collegedale,Tn. They're 7th day too. All of their trucks have to be off the road Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.

We had a couple cats when I was runnin the frac sand outfit up in ND that were fairly adamant that they had to have Sunday off for religious reasons, and me bein the naive dork that I am I tried to work with em but it just became too bothersome. I respect beliefs but I respected guys that were there to work more. When your religion doesn't let you perform your chosen profession then bro get a different profession. The only thing that matters in logistics is gettin the load from point a to point b. And I really thing the big fella upstairs would give ya a pass. That being said, two points.
- totally agree with packrattdi...this sort of nonsense makes ya wanna leave organized religion and
- there's prolly some hard up company or even SDA owned outfit that'll work with you. But I can pretty much guarantee you'll never get outta truckin what you wanna get out of it. -

I don't know where you live, but McKee Foods (Little Debbie) out of Collegedale TN is an Adventist owned company. They get all of their drivers home by sundown Friday. I know they also have facilities in VA and AR.

I am also Sabbath observant. I have 16 years experience. Every carrier I have worked for has been accomodative. I have not always been able to return home, but I have been allowed to shut the truck down. Being in Grand Rapids, you may be able to find intermodals. I worked for Pacer, now XPO. They required 5 days and one weekend day. I worked Sunday through Thursday. Of course, I owned my own truck, so that made it easier.

I would take the advice already given, try the McKee Foods SDA route. Otherwise, like what has already been said, most if not all the mega carriers will not be a good choice to respect your religious beliefs.
And honestly, if you find a small carrier that will try and make every effort, your situation might be you deliver on Friday, then sit until Monday when you can pick up, or even get loaded on the latter part of the week, then del on Monday, but either way, you'll start to complain about making no money, becuz your not making no miles by just sitting in a week over every long weekend.
good luck,
