If there is a tornado on your tail you can dive over hours to find a safe place to park. Can't just run the clock out and then find a place to park. If the area is going to flood you can high-tail it out of thee.

I try to be strategic about parking. Whenever possible, I start my day early, 4 am or even earlier, so that I’m ready to come off the road in the late afternoon when there are still plenty of spots available.
Plan B, I’ll try to start my day in the early afternoon so that I’m looking for a parking spot around 3-4 am, when spaces are starting to open up as earlybirds are leaving.
I also stockpile a list of parking spots useful for the routes I run, sharing info with other drivers from my company, and I never start driving without having a planned parking spot and one or two alternates. -
I do enjoy running in the woods with another truck or three in say Kentucky or Tennessee. We be on the radio and make a game of it last one to hit the next town is a egghead. So it devolves into a little shifting and horsies plus a bit of passing when safe. Passes the time nicely. It's also a way of anger management by draining off the accumulated rage from sitting 6 hours moving 2 miles on the blessed interstate.
