To work nights you have to fully commit to it. You have to change your whole schedule for sleep and work and socializing, everything. Most drivers keep everything on a dayshift schedule and try to sneak in some sleep here and there. I worked 18 years on nightshift. Your sleep is more important than everything else. Family and friends and errands will all push you toward giving up sleep to do something important.

For me the secret was making my bedroom darker than an empty movie theater, as cold as a meat locker, wearing comfortable earplugs earplugs, turning my phone off before bed, and adjusting everything else. I tried every possible alternative sleep schedule and none of them work half as well as my sleep is more important than your thing, whatever that thing was. None of the people wanting me to give up sleep for their thing were going to be awake doing my job at 3 am when I was working.
