Technically the voting rights act, which happens to be a law, does "entitle" a driver to be home when demanded. They violated the law there, but I didn't do anything about it.
And asking to be somewhere one time in 4 years of service isn't unreasonable.
Overall they're an OK company, if they got diesel APUs I'd consider going back there.

She made the same exact post in the Schneider forum and on their facebook page according to another member but disappeared afterwards so I'll share my response to her here...
Unfortunately in a company this size there isn't much uniformity between dbls and other management. I hear a lot of horror stories from other Schneider drivers and a lot of them have something to do with home time. I personally have never missed a weekend home except for one time that I asked to stay out because I wanted to see Texas and that's just not do-able in a week from Northern Ohio then home to NJ. I talk to my DBL once every 2 months or so and it's only if I call him. My dispatcher gives me a lot more freedom than I thought I would ever have like what days I want to work and if I want certain loads or not if its possible at the time. I feel like I have earned that with them. I see how they deal with some other drivers and it is very true that you get back what you put in at least on the acount that I work on.
The two ladies who work in our office one being dispatch, the other works on bills, they are constantly asking how my wife and kids are handling me being gone. I've talked about this before on here, but they have even made me sit down with them to for lack of better term scold me for always taking the bare minimum 34 hour break and not spending a little extra time at home. They are always quite concerned about new drivers with young families and the work vs. family balance.
So OP, sorry the communication isn't what it should be between your husband and his higher ups but it isn't that way for all of us. Perhaps your husband should confront the problems instead of having you do it for him on Internet pages. Or find another gig. It's easy to rag on Schneider sometimes even for me but I think they treat me rather well and I've said it many times on here. -
Maybe I miss read the post, but I read so many knee jerk complaints on here from folks that think this is suppose to be a job that works for them not the co. they drive for. Yes I bet the majority are part of the entitlement generation. I complaints we all fo , but we suck it up And blame everthing but ourselves for our screw ups

How did they violate your voting rights?... You do know that you can also vote absentee... Good grief
-
Absentee voting was no more than 2-3 weeks prior to the election, and since I stayed out 4 weeks I wasn't even there anyway. Point was I gave them plenty of notice yet they screwed it up. I told them I wanted to vote yet they disregarded my request.Lonesome Thanks this.

I know you are going to try another excuse like "it was that way the year I tried", but you are either full of it, or misinformed. With your crying of 'rights' I'll have to go with full of it. Anyway here is the website for mail-ion ballot. http://www.chicagoelections.com/en/vote-by-mail.html
In a nutshell the 2-3 weeks is the to-mail in deadline, not the deadline to register by mail. You can register months in advance with this year being mid-august.

It feels good being right, doesn't it?
Fact of the matter is the op was upset about home time and the know it alls had to jump all over the postLonesome Thanks this. -
First of all the op second hand information... Why don't the husband get on here and actually say something?... Like I mentioned in Prior post there is something missing to this story... and I've been in this business long enough to know that there are times when a company misses your home time but at the same time some of these drivers don't want to stand up and say anything and at this point in time we don't even know if that's the truth with this because we're getting second hand information
-
Which was kind of the reason for the post I made. The OP was second hand info and they got called out for it. I gave 1st hand examples as to how they screwed up when I gave them 3-4 weeks notice on times I had to be home.
Forget the whole voting rights act argument. I was in Atlanta 7 days before I had to be home. They knew this for a month. I even told them they could send me home right now so I don't miss it. I did give them a 5 day window.
They then sent me to New England, then down to PA where I delivered first thing Saturday morning. They then laid me over in PA for 48 hours because the only load they could find at that point going west didn't pick up until Monday.
Like I said, in 4 years as a company driver I only requested specific time off two times. They screwed up both times. I even was in Ft Wayne Indiana Tuesday morning when I needed to be back in Gary that afternoon. This was after already going off on them about being laid over 2 days. Then they sent me a load going to Indianapolis when I just got done telling them for the fourth time I had to be home before the polls closed. I had to call up and complain a fifth time and by the time I finally got back to Gary it was 7:30 pm. This was because I had to sit another 2 hours before they finally sent me 70 miles the wrong way back to Lima OH to pick up from P&G going back to Manteno.
So really, is the fact that the op provided second hand information really the issue here? I provided 1st hand info and yet I still got attacked for it. Seems like there's more to this then who's telling the story.Lonesome Thanks this. -
There are too many drivers that have this entitlement mentality today. I would bet anything the dude whines about alot more concerning the job than just home time.
