I am currently looking to get back into a OTR trucking job after spending several years doing local work. Due to individual circumstances, I have two options. Schneider and Crete Carriers running under the Shaffer banner.
Crete is offering 4 cents per base mile more along with a higher speed. Schneider is offering a sign on bonus that is difficult to walk away from.
Looking for a company that can keep me busy, offer some respect, and gets me home when needed.
I typically stay with a company for many years and would like opinions about these two companies as I have been away from the OTR scene for awhile.
Schneider or Crete

The higher cpm and higher speed don't mean a thing is there aren't miles to match. You'll get miles at SNI if you learn and follow what you are taught. Communicate with your dispatcher, send in the proper and accurate qcomm messages, know how to trip plan and run efficiently and this will catapult you ahead of 80%(trucker math) of the other company drivers. SNI has pretty good benefits. The sign on. .. they've always had it, and they always will.
I think the trucks are better specced at sni too!Last edited: Aug 16, 2018
aussiejosh and gentleroger Thank this. -
Won't go wrong either way. Whuch one has a terminal/ park location closer to home?
-
neither are particularly close, although one has offered to fly me to orientation / training .
Seems like both companies are making similar offers, just need to decide which fits my individual needs best. -
running reefer what kind of detention is crete offering?

Schneider. Not even a question.
They offering a $10,000 sign on in Phoenix right now too.CJ701 Thanks this. -
Thank you for the replys, being out of the game working local my views of these two companies are somewhat dated.

not that a new truck is garuanteed or likely, sni has made significant improvements in driver comfort specs going forward.

Crete is a good choice, the newer trucks have 1500 Watt inverters and refrigerators installed in them, and miles are good now. You should get 120,000+ with Crete and 110,000+ with Shaffer. I am with Shaffer and get more than 110,000 and I take regular time off. Never wait for loads to be offered, and they pay detention after 2 hours at $15 per hour (as of 9/1), and it pays whether the customer pays or not, as long as you submit the detention message and fill out the provided form to submit with your trip papers.
Can't comment on Schneider, as I have no experience with them.CJ701 and iraqralph43 Thank this.
