Forgive me if this has been talked about previously, but a search was unsuccessful in answering my question. I had heard that once you make it through the first part of orientation and are a assigned a trainer to go over the road with ("Training Engineer" is what Schneider calls them I believe) that you spend approximately one week with them before returning and possibly receiving your first truck and assignment. Is this true? If so, do most folks find this adequate? Doesn't seem like a lot of time to learn the in's and out's of the industry. Most companies keep you out there with a trainer for 4-6 weeks or longer... is that too long??? Part of me likes the idea of getting out on my own faster, another part of me wonders whether I would be ready or not. I consider myself a quick learner, but If the "one week" is true, I wonder why there is such a huge difference in Schneiders way of doing this in comparison to the other companies. Looking for clarification, thanks!

Ya training is one week unless you can't drive then the te can keep you longer if you went through orientation you are more than qualified to be by yourself when I was there they were starting to switch to workflow the te truck had it the truck I got didn't so had no Qualcomm training and I ended up all right out there

Maybe look for a company that has more of a training period. Im a trainer at another company and believe me 1 week is nowhere near enough time for you to learn stuff to be successful on your own, especially during these winter months. What if you never go down a mountain in a week how are you going to know how to go down a grade. Good luck on your new adventure

I only went out with a trainer for one week and I have been successful on my own.
What if in the 4-6 weeks with a trainer a deer never runs in front of your truck? How will you know what to do?
SNI's training is completely adequate, they will not let you out on your own if they don't feel you are ready. SNI also does NOT run their training trucks like team trucks, the student drives while the trainer sits in the jump seat.
You ever think the reason some of these companies keep trainees in their truck for 4, 6 8 weeks is because the truck makes more money and not to make sure they are "trained" properly?Drumbe Thanks this. -
Well almost everyone knows that you hit the #### deer. You never swerve

that wasn't the point, but ok.

The company i work for does not run their training like that either. We run the truck off my 14. I would never team drive. And our training doesnt have a set time. Its when the trainer feels the student is ready. Usually with in 2-4 weeks. Im not trying to recruit no one, all im saying is that not everyone will be ready in a week. And yes i agree with you on the team driving. Just making a profit off the student how can you learn when your trainer is sleeping. Our company dont operate that way either.

If its a local job i understand but if its an OTR seems kinda short

Glad to hear they don't run team when training. I am completely aware of the reason most of these companies keep you out that long while running team, but I would imagine you would still pick up a bit more info along the way than you would in a week. Don't get me wrong, I don't wan't to share a truck with a stranger for any longer than I have too, but at the same time I want to be confident that I am ready. I am glad to hear someone that can verify that it worked well for them. I'm not as much worried about the driving as I am about all the little things you need to learn. Either way, I guess when it comes down to it there are thousands of SNI drivers out there making a living so it must work.

I never accused. You made a statement that 1 week is not near enough time with a trainer to be successful.
SNI has thousands upon thousands of successful drivers who went thru one week with a trainer. And you are right, not EVERYONE will be ready in a week, which was why another poster stated if the trainer didn't feel you were ready, they would keep you longer.
