Is it true that a recent graduate from a truck driving school goes out only one week with a trainer? If true Schneider must be very strick about what schools they hire from.

One week????????????That's 1 long maybe 2 short trips. That's not even close to enough time to learning Schneider's policies, paper work, backing, laws ect ect.Unless its for someone that already has the exp and took time off from trucking.

I am not going to Schneider. From what a friend told me was that you have one week classroom, yard training. Then you go out with a trainer for a week, then come back for more classroom and test out. I understand that a lot of companies over do the time with a trainer, but I also think a recent grad needs more than one week out in the real world.

I agree,a recent grad needs much more training. But anymore its all about money.Companies wanna hurry up and get the trainee qualified not careing about what kind of training he or she receives just hurry up and get this person qualified.Because of poor and lack of training why so many mishaps on our roads.

If you think companies that send you out with a trainer for 2-3 months have a far better program, perhaps you should consider the fact that most of these companies don't really even train new drivers, they just use them as cheap team drivers. How those "trainers" sleep in the bunk while a newbie if careening down the road is amusing to say the least. You get 2 1/2 weeks of training really at Schneider. Only 1 of which is with an OTR trainer. Is that enough? Well, I don't see Schneider wrecks everywhere so maybe it is. Obviously more training would only help and one week is far less than ideal.

I suppose it more or less depends on the person that really determines if he or she is ready to go solo.

Not to mention that if you feel you aren't ready you can request more time with a trainer.

True, and Schneider trainers must be logged "ON DUTY" and must be sitting shotgun when a trainee is driving. Obviously under these circumstances a student can not and will not be exposed to a team driving situation. Unlike these other disgraces such as Werner, Swift IC's and CR England where trainers are allowed to log sleeper berth while a trainee is driving.
