I am thinking about signing up with Schneider. All in all it appears they are a good place to start. Does anyone know if they force you to take loads to NYC?

Schneider is 100% forced dispatch for company drivers, the only exeption is if you arent allowed in a certain place (one of the guys in my class could not go to canada because he owed too much in child support)

owner operators are the only ones at schneider that can refuse a load.

i've been with them since october and have only been to NYC once, you do get bonus pay for going to NYC ($50) and to be honest i didnt think it was all that bad, just as long as you stay the hell away from manhatten

If I decide to team after training but don’t have a partner, how do I find one? What is the process?

they will basically put your name on a list and try to match you up with other drivers who live in your area looking to team also,

they will ask you if you want a male/female partner, smoker/non smoker, if you want someone around the same age as you and all sorts of other things.

and they will try to pair you up with other drivers who meet the criteria that you are looking for.

also you can turn down whoever they try to match you up if for some reason you think you and that person would not be a good match

Do I have to know whether or not I want to team before training?

nope, in my class there was several people who decided to run teams after signing up to be solo drivers.

schneider makes more money off of team drivers and 90% of their instructors are former team drivers, and hearing them talk about it all the time just reminded me of sitting through a timeshare, to be honest... dont let ANYONE try to talk you into teaming, you need to decide for youself, most people do it for the money, but to me it isnt worth it. I like my privacy too much, and cramming 2 people and all of their crap into the space that is basically the size of a large prison cell isnt my idea of a rewarding career.

plus you are at the mercy of whoever you team with, and simply put can you trust your life, in the hands of a stranger? what happens if they do something stupid while you are asleep in the bunk and ends up getting you both killed, if i was ever going to be a team driver, it would have to be someone i know very very well and someone i know that i can trust.
