Wow how low the industry has sunk. He struck an object. Own up to it and face the consequences.
I can not fathom folks saying cover it up and lie about it. No wonder companies want cameras and microphones. Just wow.

We've all seen here people try an minimize what happened.
Is the "little" scrape really little, or is it a hole big enough to toss a soccer ball in?
If it's really little and no sunlight showing in the trailer I would ignore it. If you can shove a soccer ball in it, well you will get fired once they find out what happned. And they will find out as it's an insurance matter then.Throwaway12 Thanks this. -
While I agree with the sentiment, the reality is much different.
In trucking the most minor of things will follow one for three years and make getting a job harder. And no other industry cares about little things like that anyway.
Lets talk for example a yellow bollard. A fork truck driver gets a little close and scrapes the paint with a pallet. No damage just a paint scrape. No one bats an eye. Now same thing with a truck. Backing into a dock and scrape the paint on a bollard and now it's a wreck that follow one for three years and seen as no different then plowing into a minivan from chronic tailgating.dunchues, AModelCat and Throwaway12 Thank this. -
I wonder if your perspective would change if you owned the equipment, or if you would be ok with drivers damaging your equipment without recourse?dc730, lagbrosdetmi, p608 and 3 others Thank this.

That right there would lead to your entire fleet looking like you bought it at the local scrap yard quicker than anything. When your drivers have no consequences, they don't care...and careless drivers tear $#!+ up.dc730, lagbrosdetmi and p608 Thank this.

Why are you asking questions about my family? Stay on topic. That question is inappropriate on a truckers forum. Maybe there's a thread on here for family discussions, but it's not this one.
I stand by my comment to the new driver.
Every person with a cdl is just one physical or wreck or ticket away from being unemployed so there's good reason not to throw yourself under the bus.Last edited: Jan 25, 2018
dunchues and easytopleez33 Thank this. -
Actually it IS a relevant question, because at best it shows inconsistency on your part advising different people in similar circumstances to act in different manners. At worst, it is hypocritical to give opposite advise to those which you have a responsibility for their care and to those which you do not. It speaks to your character, and that affects the quality of the advise you give. A hypocrite's advice is best taken with a grain of salt.Snailexpress, Tb0n3, ladr and 2 others Thank this.

What if it was your car? people bump and scrape them in the parking lots all the time, does that make it ok to leave without owning up to your mistake? It's called an accident not an on purpose, if you did it own it.Tb0n3 Thanks this.
