I live in Central Florida. I don't yet have my CDL. I have several preferences and would love some feedback, advice and facts! FYI...single mother here! Just looking for a career change. Some of what I am listing below are just preferences...not requirements. Just weighing my options!
1. I am looking for a company based out of Central Florida who pays for CDL school including transportation and lodging while a student is in the school.
2. Being a single mom, I want to find a company with decent home time but who will also give me plenty of miles.
3. I do not want a Northeast or Midwest route....will I have my choice in that? Or how does that work? Are there any companies that hire new grads just for southern routes?
4. I only want to do solo routes and no teams.
5. Prefer a company that has a decent rider policy.
6. Prefer an automatic truck.
7. Prefer no touch freight
Thanks everyone!

Sometimes Sygma Network hires Orlando area drivers with only a CDL Permit and trains on-the-job to get a cdl.
The money is great and the work is difficult.

You know what...dont be single parent and go into trucking. If you do any kind of otr or even regional, you won't see your kid.
@FlaSwampRat knows the line hau/ltl game in Fla. Maybe he'll chime in. I think he got softand switched over to the office/warehouse side, but Im sure he can answer questions.

With that company and with Sysco etc you DEFINITELY will require a TWIC card, possibly a classified access for delivering food to nuclear war Missile Boomers dockside on Kings Bay Georgia etc. and other many cool things in the deep south.
Sometimes you will drive your rig underground. Civil War Road near Joplin MO comes to mind as a famous location. Kansas CIty has it's underground as well. Maryland and Connecticut has some as well.
There are many things for you to do and money to make with that employer. No day is a dull one.
Good luck.Voodoo Pyg and Shae0901 Thank this. -
