To all the OOs out there, if you had to say: Out of every 10 Owner Operators, how many are self brokering their own loads? As in they are doing business direct with the shipper, and there is no 3rd party broker.

No such thing as a self-broker, you are an independent with direct access to freight.
The word broker means a third party involvement.jsnell, Opendeckin, Renegade92 and 2 others Thank this. -
Let me rephrase: Out of every 10 Owner Operators, how many do you think are moving loads without the assistance of a broker? -
Hmmm can you make a poll on here?
Like spot market, direct, or both..You may get a better answer.Phoenix Heavy Haul, Rideandrepair and Renegade92 Thank this. -
Does self broker mean you have secured a run for your trucks? Or if you happen to own a brokerage and a trucking company does it count as self brokerage if you use your brokerage to load your owned trucks?
Rideandrepair, Siinman and Renegade92 Thank this. -
I would say 1 in 50 or 1 in 100 true owner operators have direct access to shippers.

I’d say your general owner op that’s completely independent maybe 20% is on actual customer freight but that’s a guess obviously. I think most that are single operators don’t invest the time to gain direct customers.

i tried to get in on some direct shipper freight but seems like most places just want to deal with brokers, sadly the one place in town i wanted cut down there business, so not sure how long that wouldve lasted. Fortunately seems like just signing on with a trucking company that has contracts you want seems easiest.
Rideandrepair, Renegade92 and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
I’ve tried getting direct freight. I succeeded with two shippers near me. What I found out real quick is the loads that went out to me on Monday morning and loads that were posted by brokers with the same shippers showed two different rates. The shipper built in higher rates for the brokers. I guess to make sure they got their cut. I’ve also tried working with a broker that had direct lanes in my area. They got to being real pushy and wanted me to hurry back. Now that brokers loads paid good but you lose your shirt trying to get right back. So I’ve just resolved to run the load boards. I am still actively seeking that elusive dedicated run that pays $20 a mile round trip and home every day. But no one seems to know where they are……
Rideandrepair Thanks this.
