Top one. Mine was in top hole on front drive, and bottom hole in back. I've looked at couple trucks at Volvo dealer and it's mostly top hole both axles. Truck rides fine. So what's the correct setup?

pre 2010 or 2009 should be Top and bottom Hole after that they made the shocks cheaper and they go top and top hole so it all depends on what year your truck is. they also changed the front shocks from outside its the same look but different part number.

Nasriza, maybe this is my problem , the OEM shocks are cheap made, but i tried Gabriel, Monroe also for steer. I have problems with this Hendrickson steertek axle, was great for 4-5 years, but now seems like I can't get it right again. I replaced everything axle assembly, springs, spring mount, cab mount, air springs valves, many sets of shocks and was still rough. So, I bought this Roadking shocks, just installed yesterday, a pair for steer axle only because are expensive 400$ each, just installed yesterday I hope they help. I read mixed reviews, but are designed to hold 4000lbs dampening force each vs OEMs designed to take 800 lbs force. I took the truck for a short ride, seems way better, but I don't know how long are going to last, are rebuildable anyway.

Well, I wouldn't spend but this axle has some unsolvable issues. I used to run a set of steer tires for 250k, now are wearing after 50k. I didn't know what to do, I installed a Go Pro cam and watch the steer suspension elements live on the move via app, maybe next i'll change to new model of dual height control valves; People are spending more $$ on fancy off road suspensions for vehicles driven a couple of hours in weekend; we drive 60-70 hours /week ; I already have some lower back pain and some sections of highways are worst than off road tracks.
This video seems kind of commercial but explains the difference from OEMs and Road King shocks.

The Volvo VNL Standard Front Spring Ride suspension is a much better setup then the Hendrickson Air Ride.

The Hendrickson gives too much of a floating sensation and tends to make the front wander alot.

The OEM Volvo Shock is made by Sachs which is a very reputable company.

IMO, Road Krap Shocks are overpriced hyped up junk. It's shiny looking and has that High Tech looking exterior finish, but the internals don't last long and they have very
    poor Customer Service.

I'll stick with the $40.00 Gabriel Fleetline shocks that I replace every 100k, but if Road Krap Shocks solves your problems, more power to you.
