I've been running a step-deck this past month and have slight difficulty winching straps on the lower deck portion. Anyone know where I can get a shorter winch bar? Or any other suggestions.

I like a shorter bar so I just simply cut mine down to my liking with a saw. Not sure how short your looking to get it but I only cut around 10 inches off mine, works great for me.Nothereoften Thanks this.

Thanks JJ....I'll order 36" cut-off about 10"....thanks.JonJon78 Thanks this.

I use a ratchet bar when i pull a step deck, saves time from taking bar out after every clickKlleetrucking Thanks this.

There's a ratchet insert for the winch available, the name escapes me at the moment.

Silver Cap?
I wouldn't cut the bar shorter. You want to keep the leverage. A ratcheting winch bar would be cost effective.Klleetrucking Thanks this. -
This is close but there was one that inserted into existing winch transforming it into a ratcheting winch. They were about $35 a pop iirc.

I ran a lo-profile, trombone, step deck for quite a while... I know the pain. I had the perfect combo tool for that. It was a ~2 foot long, 1 inch diameter, six-sided, solid bar; especially useful on the drop-deck winches when the load was wider than the trailer (which was... always).
It also worked great for slipping through wheel holes and then hitting the end with a hammer to loosen frozen brakes (no crawling under trailers).Lepton1, Lawdog71, Nothereoften and 3 others Thank this. -
Quick winch.buy the attachememts and weld them the winches

Those ratchet winches are the bomb. But they don't hold up very well in the weather.
Pack spares if you go that route.
I don't know how you would cut the bar shorter unless you never use chains and binders. Or pack a spare. They're certainly cheap enough.cke Thanks this.
