GET a Nap.
Driving sleepy is WORSE THAN DRIVING. DRUNK.
Get at least two to three hour nap. Thats a complete sleep cycle down to REM and back. That kind of sleep is a healing one.
Ima telling you. I show you a lifetime of staying awake for days, and for what?
Nothing. Except heartache, being fired, damage, blood sweat and tears.
GET a NAP.
Before you do, put a note to self on a ledger pad Mr Self I am at such a place, at date and time and how and what and so on.
That way when you wake up all groggy and don't remember anything that little pad on the wheel will remind you fast enough.Flat Earth Trucker, deathB4decaf, Lumper Humper and 9 others Thank this. -
If you can't handle the work, you need to get out before you kill anyone.
x1Heavy, mhyn, truckdriver31 and 5 others Thank this. -
pull over and take a power nap of hopefully not more than 20 minutes, cuz if you go longer than that, you will fall into a deeper sleep, and wake up all grogy...
edit, my spell check is not working on this site, anyone else having this issue?Lumper Humper, x1Heavy, mhyn and 1 other person Thank this. -
Stop and sleep if you need to, take a couple laps around the truck if it helps, but dont drive tired.x1Heavy Thanks this.

When your eyelids get heavy, and you hav to try and keep them open, it's time to get some sleep. No substitute. You can drink caffeine or energy drinks but your mind will be putty and you won't be able to sleep when you next have the chance. Just digging a hole.
Alot of drivers don't eat because eating makes them tired... If you get tired when you eat then you have waited too long to eat and don't have the energy to digest the food. Eat more frequently and smaller portions. Preferably something healthy. It helps alot. Staying hydrated also.
Keep your mind active, think about something. Look around alot are where you are and what's around you, especially other traffic. Watch people drive and try and guess how far ahead thay are looking when they drive. That will be interesting.

I take a decongestant. You can get it a any pharmacy such as Walmart Pharmacy. Have to sign for it. It's not a prescription, but you have to sign for it.

x1Heavy and WesternPlains Thank this. -
Never ever ever ever drive tired like you described.
Power nap, and then get the blood flowing. I find that a 20-30 minute nap gets me going again. I mostly drive nights and some are more difficult. I’ll pull over and take 2-3 naps if I have to. If A nap won’t work I find a safe place and set my alarm for 2-3 hours. That always works. Yes I’m eating into my 14. Doesn’t matter I still have a job to do, a family to support.Flat Earth Trucker, Rideandrepair, x1Heavy and 2 others Thank this. -
I would say a toothpick is your best option.
Double Dime and Chinatown Thank this. -
Nothing works better than sleep. Even if it's just a 30 minute nap.
