It seems like it would be easier to ream out the ferrule.

Just a few seconds with the bench grinder

seems like it would make the whip a little bit weaker at that point where it's ground down

It may but the ferrule was made for a certain diameter whip. Would removing material from ferrule lessen it's integrity? It's a compromise either way. Bench grinder was easiest for me.

stretching the hole in the Ferrule will reduce the amount of threads your set screw has to tighten on the whip and grinding down the whip will weaken the whip so I guess it's just a matter of guesstimating which one is the lesser of two evils. If the ferrule is made out of brass then it requires more threads for structural Integrity than if it was made out of stainless steel. I'd venture to say that 4 threads for brass and two threads for stainless should be adequate and if you have more than that it should be okay to stretch out the hole for a larger whip.Last edited: May 23, 2017
