One set of 3 railers or 4 singles count as a full chain up in Colorado. I would personally run 3 railers best traction. Likely it will get you up the hill as long as your a single trailer and not too light. CA and OR require drag chains for the trailer which is dumb IMO. Un hook trailer when chaining. So you don't bust your head open by smacking it on the trailer. Like I did. A lot easier. Plus if you know it's gonna be snowy take your mud flaps off before you leave for your run. A lot easier. Always get a new set before winter. Using existing chains can screw you cause they might not fit right anymore. Makes a quick chain to a cluster F and adds frustration.

Thanks.
I'm strictly east coast and don't run in any chain states, but was thinking of carrying some anyway for traction (shippers, truckstops, etc). For that, the easier to work with cables might be good enough for me. -
I drive for werner... and they do encourage drivers to carry chains.. they will issue them to you.. however, they do run out sometimes at the terminals... so, smart drivers get in early and get em... I got assigned my truck today.. and immediately went and got chains, fuel additive, oil, washer fluid, antifreeze, DEF and even scored a bottle of cleaner and some clean shop rags...
Now, heres the thing. . Since I picked up chains.. actually brand new cables.. if I dont return them if I quit or get fired I am charged for them... which is why many drivers dont pick them up...
It is true that werner will not authorize a driver to buy them at a truck stop.. but, again, a driver can pick up the right ones for their truck at the terminal and if so motivated be taugnt how to put them on... -
Cables are not chains
