My load was not ready for pick up until 6:00 p.m. and delivery is the next morning at 4:00 a.m. and it is 3 and a 1/2 hours away plus I need time to get it scaled so here I am at a truck stop I made it halfway and I am too tired to make it to my delivery at 4:00 a.m. in the morning is it my fault that this load is not going to make it or is it the distribution centers problem since they only have my load ready at very last minute? I'm a little peeved because normally they have it ready at least a day in advance.

I suppose that depends... Did you sleep while you waited for your load? Thats the key to making trucking work, you MUST sleep at every opportunity. This is why I dont drink energy drinks or too much coffee... I want to be able to sleep at a moment's notice when I can get in 20 winks.

I agree many questions here. When did you get dispatched? Did you have hours? Could you have checked in early? Could you have napped on their property? Did they take too long to load you? At first glance, that looks to be an easy run, with a 3.5 hr run, those are expected to go straight thru

Alot of drivers me included cant just lay down and sleep at various times of the day. I sleep at night and wake up in the morning. When I would get an overnight run then I might get only 2 or 3 hrs of sleep. With that said, the load needs to deliver ontime, and if you cant do it then get the load repowered.

I sleep during my ten hour break. That is what the rules were created for. If I can I will take a nap en route or at the customer but you need to get sleep during your ten.

What time did the assignment say that the load would be ready?

If it said 8am or noon then you should get detention but if it says 6pm you are SOL.

    G13Tomcat Thanks this.

If you are too tired to drive, you did the right thing and pulled over. You know your limits, but you have to manage you time and sleep better. This is trucking, anytime there is an issue at a shipper or receiver, it always effects the driver and throws a monkey wrench in your plans
