"Conestoga" is a word registered to Aero Industries. The rest are rolling tarp sides. We have one Aero.

They've been calling wagons conestogas since the 1800's.

A lot more companies are requiring Conestogas to haul their freight. Machinery with milled surfaces, robotics, aircraft parts just to name a few. I love my conestoga and wouldn't want to pull anything else!

I will say when your on truck paper or anything it does make it hard to tell difference because when looking for Conestogas you have to go into the curtain side tab.

Curtain sides the top stays and side roll up and down..
Conestoga the whole tarp moves to front of back for loading/unloading

Yup. Curtainside has permanent roof and roll up sides. Connies have the whole thing slide to either end. Now, does anyone have pictures of anyone using, say, a two inch strap to secure open tarp to bulkhead?
    thanks

The company I am leased to considers a Conestoga a curtain side. That is like a soft side van. Many have hard nose with man door and swinging doors on the rear . Many years ago I was taught the covered wagon ( Indianapolis side kit) was a flat bed with 4 foot removable sides with the bows and a tarp covering it.

Actually, the minor difference is a major difference. With a curtain side, you have vertical posts every so many feet, so could not load anything wider than them. Also, an 8' high load, like any load needs to be lifted off the bed before being 'set' down on the bed and the curtain side prevents this with a permanent roof. The conestoga opens completely, to either end and is open to the sky while loading. A BIG difference my friend
